About American Waterfowl Systems

More Than a Tool. It’s a Testimony.

American Waterfowl Systems wasn’t born from a business plan.

It began with a conviction.

Years ago, God laid a burden on my heart. I knew that if I was ever going to build a company around my passion for the outdoors, it couldn’t simply be about making products or building a brand. It had to be about glorifying Him. Every product we created would have a purpose beyond the hunt itself.

That conviction still guides every decision we make today.

American Waterfowl Systems officially began in 2011—but not as a call company.

It started by producing authentic wildlife ringtones for the iPhone. Those original recordings introduced thousands of hunters to the American Waterfowl Systems name, and many of those wildlife ringtones are still available today through Apple’s iTunes Music Tones Store.

As the brand grew, so did the vision.

What began with wildlife sounds eventually expanded into designing and building premium duck, goose, turkey, and Sandhill crane calls, innovative hunting products, and outdoor apparel—all with the same purpose that inspired the company from the beginning.

Although American Waterfowl Systems was founded in 2011, my passion for designing and building game calls began in 2009. Since then, I have spent thousands of hours studying birds, developing new ideas, testing prototypes, tuning calls, and refining every detail to create products that hunters can trust when the moment matters most.

Over the years, I have been blessed to work with respected names throughout the outdoor industry, including Rig’Em Right Outdoors, Whitetail Institute of North America, Leland’s Lures, and Sitka Gear. Those opportunities have challenged me to continually improve my craftsmanship while remaining true to the values that started this journey.

God has also opened doors beyond product design. I have had the privilege of serving as a published Christian writer, photographer, and seminar speaker, using every opportunity possible to encourage others in their faith and to share the hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

Our commitment to craftsmanship has also been recognized on the competition stage. In 2025 and 2026, our Sandhill Crane Call earned first place in its category at the NWTF Grand National Call Makers Competition. We have also been honored with a Top 5 finish at the Call Makers & Collectors Association of America competition at Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee.

While we are grateful for every award and recognition, trophies have never been our mission. They simply affirm the time, dedication, and craftsmanship that go into every product we build.

Our mission has always been much bigger.

When someone chooses one of our calls, they’re carrying more than a finely crafted hunting tool.

They’re carrying countless hours of design, testing, and craftsmanship.

They’re carrying a company built on faith.

They’re carrying a conversation starter.

Most importantly, they’re carrying a testimony.

That is why our motto has never changed:

More Than a Tool. It’s a Testimony.

We believe there is something special about God’s creation. Long before sunrise, when the marsh comes alive and the first birds begin to fly, we are reminded of the Creator who spoke it all into existence. Hunting has always been about more than harvesting game. It’s about family, friendships, tradition, stewardship, and moments that point us back to the One who created it all.

Our prayer is that every product we build reflects excellence, integrity, and our desire to honor Christ in everything we do. Whether you’re standing in flooded timber, tucked away in a marsh, chasing spring gobblers, or calling in Sandhill cranes across an open field, we hope American Waterfowl Systems becomes a trusted part of your hunting tradition.

Thank you for supporting an American company built on faith, craftsmanship, and purpose. We are honored every time one of our products earns a place on your lanyard, in your vest, or alongside your family’s hunting memories.

Our greatest hope is that long after the hunt is over, the greatest thing we leave behind won’t be another successful hunt—but another opportunity for someone to know Jesus Christ.

Thank you for being part of our story.

See you in the marsh,

Anthony Wade Smith
